This is a breakdown of the writing coverage which should be taught to ensure children meet the early learning goals in writing.

2 ELG- Writing www.earlybirdyeducation.com Sentence structure:
Handwriting: Phonics: Introduce the use of simple conjunctions and adjectives. Expose children to count the words in their sentence and re read for clarification and understanding. To teach the correct letter formation of all letters in the alphabet. Writing is plausible, neat and can be read by others. Begin to teach writing in cursive and expose children to the lead in and out. Children confident in phase 2 and 3 phonics and are beginning to use and recognise phase 4 ad 5. Words are phonetically plausible and children are using these phases independently. ELG- Writing Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and other phonetically plausible. Punctuation: Common, tricky and high frequency words. Writing: Different purposes of writing are taught such as stories, information, poetry, lists, invitations and cards. Teach key vocabulary for certain writing styles and adapt to the children's interest. Children write extended pieces independently and writes several sentences in meaning. Introduce the meaning of simple punctuation . , ! ? “ “ Expose the children to these in group writing sessions. Children to begin to use at least one of these forms of punctuation independently. Children can write their own name and familiar words independently. Expose children to tricky words and high frequency words- phase2,3, and 4.
