Plants have mechanisms that enable them to respond to their environment.
Plants grow, reproduce, and shift the position of their roots, stems and leaves in response to environmental conditions such as gravity, sunlight, temperature and day length

Response and Stimulus
Anything in the environment that produces a response is called a stimulus.
Example:
A camera’s flash goes off…

Example: a plant’s roots grow towards a water source

11. Auxins Plants chemicals that help the plant grow
Auxins cause the plant to bend during all kinds of tropisms
When one side of the plant is exposed to light, the auxins move to the other side and down. Cells then grow, which makes the plant bend.

Dormancy is a period of inactivity in a mature seed prior to germination
seed remains dormant until conditions are favorable for growth and development of the new plant.
