Major Academic Plan (MAP)
Associate in Arts BAE in Early Childhood Education (99 credits) Education Department College of Arts, Letters, and Education Why study P-3 education? Teaching is an enormously challenging and rewarding profession. Every teacher must use his or her knowledge of the subject matter, instructional strategies, and interpersonal skills to provide learning experiences for every student in the classroom. Upon completion, graduates will find employment opportunities in childcare centers, preschools, Head Start Programs, ECEAP programs, blended preschools, and primary grades in the public schools. The program in Early Childhood consists of an academic major in Early Childhood Education and a sequence of professional certification courses. Completion of this program satisfies the State of Washington endorsement for teaching preschool through grade 3. Field Experiences The purpose of field experiences is to provide the teacher candidate with direct teaching/learning experience in a school setting. The candidate has the opportunity during this time to observe teachers, plan lessons, and teach under the guidance of cooperating teachers. Student teaching is the culminating field experience when the candidate co-teaches full-time for the entire quarter.
