Because of the myriad of issues we deal with as safety nets, we felt it was important to explore partnerships to enhance our ability to meet the needs of the underserved. Colleen Lampron, MPH John McFarland DDS Executive Director President

5 MISSION for a new era The Mission of the National Network for Oral Health (NNOHA) is to improve the oral health status of the underserved through advocacy and support for Health Centers.

6 Strategic Goals 1: Advocacy/Policy: Advocate for legislation, regulation, funding, and policies which ensure the ability of Health Centers to provide comprehensive primary oral health care to the underserved. 2: Membership Services: Ensure that all NNOHA members have access to the support, information, and resources to deliver high quality care to all those in need. 3: Strategic Partnerships: Develop and nurture partnerships with organizations and individuals that can assist NNOHA in achieving, fulfilling, and furthering the mission of the organization. 4: Infrastructure: Strengthen the NNOHA infrastructure to enhance NNOHA’s nationwide impact on the oral health of the underserved

7 Strategic Goal 1 Advocacy/Policy
Educated and advocate for legislation, regulation, funding, and policies which ensure the ability of Health Centers to provide comprehensive primary oral health care to the underserved. Strategies include: Advocacy – oral health is part of overall health Ensure policy that supports comprehensive dental services. Support expansion of oral health services within Health Centers Form oral health policy position statements by the end of 2008.

8 Strategic Goal 2 Membership Services
Ensure that all NNOHA members have access to the support, information, and resources to deliver high quality care to all those in need. Strategies Include: Support for Health Center providers – including annual conference, NNOHA list serve, website, peer to peer mentoring, and newsletter Address the Health Information technology needs of Health Center oral health programs Provide support to oral health clinical quality by sharing information with Health Centers and PCAs Research and develop a Principles and Best Practices document (within 5 years)

9 Strategic Goal 3 Strategic Partnerships
Develop and nurture partnerships with organizations and individuals that can assist NNOHA in achieving, fulfilling, and furthering the mission of the organization. Strategies Include: Increase resources for NNOHA members by developing strategic partnerships with corporations and other supporting institutions Identify and strategize key policy issues through comprehensive and collaborative partnerships Develop strategies to strengthen, recruit and support the Health Center oral health workforce

Strengthen the NNOHA infrastructure to enhance NNOHA’s nationwide impact on the oral health of the underserved Strategies Include: Double NNOHA membership (from 250 to 500) in 2008 Develop administrative operations to coordinate and facilitate goals and objectives Create a structure to respond to, and develop education and policy positions Establish Board governance standards, roles, and responsibilities

Awarded 10/1/2007 for one year Goals: Workforce development document Health Center dental openings Develop online recruitment resource Partner with HRSA and others to develop strategies to make Health Centers a sought after career opportunity Health Information Technology Document products in use in Health Centers Convene committee to recommend core functionality and include dental in HIT decisions Issue White Paper on Health Center Dental HIT Quality Improvement Host conference calls or meetings with PCAs to discuss oral health clinical quality Provide support to PCAs to develop oral health clinical quality infrastructure and resources

1) MEMBER SERVICES: Ensure that all NNOHA members have access to the support, information, and resources to deliver high quality care to all those in need and increase NNOHA membership through the following activities: 2) WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT: Work in collaboration with several partners to develop strategies to strengthen, recruit, and support Health Center oral health workforce. 3) HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: In collaboration with HRSA address the Health Information Technology needs of Health Center oral health programs. 4) ADVOCACY: Advocate for legislation, regulation, funding, and policies which ensure the ability of health centers to provide comprehensive primary oral health care to the underserved. 5) STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS: NNOHA will develop and nurture partnerships with organizations and individuals that can assist NNOHA in achieving, fulfilling, and furthering the mission to improve the oral health status of the underserved through advocacy and support for health centers. Membership Identification of non-member CHC dental staff and other individuals who are interested in NNOHA’s mission Development of recruitment strategies and materials Development of retention programs Provide input into the development of NNOHA member benefits (NNOHA website, listserve, and other services) Includes the Newsletter subcommittee: Guide the development of a NNOHA newsletter to share important information, and technical assistance to NNOHA members. Chaired by: Dan Brody, DDS and Irene Hilton, DDS, MPH (staff: Colleen Lampron and Terry Hobbs) Work with HRSA to identify at least 5 partner organizations (e.g. ADA, AHEC, Primary Care Associations, National Association of Community Health Centers) to identify and post all dentist and dental hygienist vacancies at Health Centers. Develop a database of Health Center dentist and dental hygienists positions for the NNOHA website. Collect recruitment and retention best practices and share through NNOHA website Develop a document evaluating Health Information Technology products currently in use in Health Center dental programs. Publish a White Paper with recommended core functionality for Health Center electronic health records to include dental information.
