2. Where?
Sri Lanka is an island off the south-east tip of India. There is very diverse culture and religious beliefs and you will be eating a lot of curry!
We would be based in Uppuveli, a small village just above Trincomalee on the eastern coast (about 6 hours from Colombo, the capital). Trinco is set on a natural harbour and was hit hard in the civil war but is now thriving.
Staying in hostel or guesthouse accommodation.

3. The Expedition 6 weeks of marine research and surveys (over June/July)
Data collection using a variety of techniques with scope for diving, snorkelling and boat projects
Working with Posiedon PADI instructor centre. Diving qualifications not essential but must be willing to get them pre-departure.
Public outreach and beach cleans in local schools with
Ocean Stars NGO
Local MPA – Pigeon Island
Research ideas include
Baseline coral studies
Hydro-acoustics and cetaceans (local populations of blue whales and dolphins)
Algae studies
Welcome any new ideas as well!

4. The team
Looking for a team of 6/7 students of mixed ages and stages of study. Need to be enthusiastic, willing to work hard and creative throughout the entire fundraising and expedition process. An interest in the underwater world, conservation and marine research is essential and you must be happy around open water (night and day). A passion to work together as a team and pull a fantastic new expedition out of the bag!! Personal contribution: £800
