2 Get into the test system
Please write down the number of your computer on the left side of the yellow card. 2. Open Google Chrome, go to iaet.indiana.edu 3. Log in using your IU username. (Resetting passphrase: one.iu.edu Enter “passphrase” in the search box, and reset your passphrase.) 5. After you log in to the system, turn off your devices. Proctors will collect ALL of your devices. Some students might need to use their DUO devices to log in. Proctors take the cellphones AFTER everyone logs in to iate.Indiana.edu and exchange each device for a ticket. If students forgot their passphrase, go to one.iu.edu, enter “passphrase” in the search box, and help them reset their passphrase.

Writing test 1 Section 1 Writing test 2 Section 2 10-minute Break Audio-visual Listening Test Section 3 “This test is a computer-based Academic English test. This test has four sections: two writing sections, one listening section, and one speaking section. The entire test will take about 4 hours.” Transition to interview rooms Section 4 Oral Interview

15 minutes Three topics are given, students choose ONE topic. Writing test 1: Narrative Writing Section 1 50 minutes Writing in response to reading texts Writing test 2: Read-to-Write Argumentative Writing Section 2 10-minute Break Audio-visual Listening Test Section 3 Writing: The first writing section will take 15 minutes. You will receive a choice of three topics and write on only the one you choose. You will type your response on your computer. Right after the first writing section, you will have the second writing section. The second writing section will take 50 minutes. In this section, you will read some texts and write an essay in response to the texts. You can make notes or an outline on the blank sheet that you received. After the two writing sections, you will have a ten minute break. You can go to the bathroom during this break. Transition to interview rooms Section 4 Oral Interview

You will be watching academic lecture videos and responding to 30 multiple choice questions on your computer. Each section of the test is timed. If you finish a section early, please wait in your seat until that section is over. Again, if you finish any section early, please remain in your seat until time is called. Narrative Writing Section 1 Writing test 2: Read-to-Write Argumentative Writing Section 2 10-minute Break Audio-visual Listening Test Section 3 Speaking: Once everyone is finished with the listening section, I will ask the proctors to collect the notes from the listening section. All of you will leave this room, collect your cell phones, and report to the second floor of Ballantine Hall and to the room number marked on your yellow slip of paper. All the interview rooms are on the ___________ floor of Ballantine Hall. There, you will see your name and a time for you to enter the room and engage in a brief interview. Interviewers will be assessing your pronunciation and fluency. They will be asking you your opinions on a variety of topics. There are no right or wrong answers. You are welcome to ask for an alternate question if you like. When you have been interviewed, the test is complete and you are free to leave. When you are not being interviewed, you are welcome to use the restrooms or take the stairs down to the ground floor where you will find a lounge and vending machines. 8 Academic Misconduct Indiana University treats Academic Misconduct very seriously. Academic Misconduct means any form of cheating. For example, if you are seen: using an internet page other than the exam, looking at a neighbor’s screen, using any kind of electronic device, you will receive one warning card. At all times during the test, you CANNOT open another Internet page. Your computer screen should always show the test. Also, you should keep your eyes on your own screen, and you are NOT allowed to use any kind of electronic device during the test.

9 Academic Misconduct Please remember that you will receive only ONE warning. If any academic misconduct occurs after one warning, a report of your actions will be filed with the university. Again, cheating will NEVER be tolerated. ANY form of cheating will be filed with the university after one warning.

10 Test results Your test results will be reported to your advisors on the same day that you test. On the basis of those results, English support classes may be required – SLST classes for undergraduates and graduates. 11 Help! Right before each section of the test, there will be full instructions. If you have a problem during the test, please raise your hand quietly. One of the proctors will come and help you. If you accidentally close the test webpage, just raise your hand. A proctor will come and help you. You can always go back to the same webpage and continue from where you left off.
