District Extension What is it?
2
NEW Club Extension New Club Extension is the heart of Rotary growth. The initiation of a new Rotary club makes a major contribution to furthering Rotary goals and programs. Rotary is interested in not just starting new clubs, but also in maintaining its strong image of leadership, commitment to service and established procedures. Extension is the area in which careful preparation and study are essential. Supervision and cooperation of Rotary International, the District Governor, the Extension committee, the sponsoring Rotary club and the organizers within the new club is a must. The Committee assists the District Governor in the extension of Rotary in the District. Renders assistance to the sponsoring club.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. The purpose of the Committee is to assist Sponsoring Clubs, and the Area Assistant Governor to establish a new club under the direction of the District Governor. 2. The role of the Extension Committee also is to identify innovative approaches to "meetings“ in cooperation with the Assistant Governor and the Sponsoring Club . 3. The Committee assists the Area Assistant Governor and Special Representative with the proper forms to establish a new club. The Sponsor Club then supports and mentors the new club during its early years of existence.

Satellite Clubs ?? What are they ?
Is there a need for a new club in your community or nearby community? Do you have a gap in your club that might be filled by having a Satellite Club? What are they ?
5
Satellite Clubs Satellite Clubs are a club within a club.
Satellite Clubs are members of the Sponsor Club. They meet at a separate date and time. The Satellite Club operates under the constitution, by-laws and rules of the sponsor club unless both clubs agree to special by- laws and rules which may be enacted for the satellite club.
6
Satellite Clubs Satellite Clubs are an extension of a Rotary Club.
They do not have their own charter, constitution or bylaws. They can have a differing "model" to offer more flexibility and attract members that may not have ever joined the Rotary Club as-is. They may look and feel like a separate club because they will have their own leadership and committees. Their leadership roles and committees are to be in close partnership with the sponsor Rotary Club. The purpose is not only to run independent projects and fundraising - it's creating additional opportunities for all members to get involved where they are passionate. The focus should be joint involvement and joint support.
7
Satellite Club A Satellite Club is not a replacement program.
It's a way to build a better bridge for prospective members to transition into the Rotary Club organization Purpose of a Satellite Club is not to create more complexities or just one more thing to "sponsor" - it's a way for to grow your club in a creative way This is an opportunity to try something innovative and new to help grow a great organization!

The Impacts of a Satellite Club
Decrease the average club membership age Introduce new leaders to the organization who are eager to get involved with the club's current projects and maybe introduce some new ones Offer the opportunity for members to have a bit more flexibility in the meeting schedule Create a "bench" of incoming members to the core club who have a good Rotary knowledge base and are already familiar with the members/meetings Get more people involved in an organization that has a serious growth and retention issue. Without growth and retention the people who "lose" at the end of the day are all of those who would benefit from Rotary projects and programs.
