In New Zealand, we don’t like the idea of having servants
If I get treated like to a servant I will probably react negatively
Biblical characters are called servants e.g. servant of God

We are servants to whatever dominates our thinking
e.g. work, negative self image, children, house renovations, selfish desires, ministry
In fact, we either serve God or Satan Ephesians 2:2,3

4. Christians are called to be servants
We belong to a King Philippians 2
Christ set us an example John 13
Being a servant is now a privilege Mark 10
We serve God by serving others Matthew 25

5. What do servants do? Make themselves available 2 Tim 2:4
They do what’s needed rather than what’s personally convenient John 13
Do every task with dedication Luke 16:10

6. What makes a good servant?
Reliable
- Not making excuses, procrastinating,
Not doing ‘own thing’,
Keeps promises,
Is a finisher,
Not distracted
Observant – pays attention to needs
Humble – defers the glory to the master
