1 Expectations As your teacher, I believe these expectations are clear and necessary to facilitate an environment where students can learn.

2 It won’t be this painful!

3 Be prompt with regular attendance
In order to be counted present and on time, you must be in your assigned seat before the last chime of the tardy bell Research indicates a correlation between student learning, grades & regular attendance

4 respectful of self, fellow students, teacher, guests & school property
Be polite & positive respectful of self, fellow students, teacher, guests & school property

5 Be prepared (mentally & physically)
binder including loose-leaf paper & all class papers pen/pencil iPad with work that will be used that day or due

6 Be productive Expect to work from bell to bell A good participant:
Listens patiently and responds thoughtfully Speaks up regularly in discussion but does not dominate Shows clear engagement with the assignment Makes connections to course readings and larger themes of the class

7 Electronics All electronic devices need to be put away during instructional time unless we are using the iPads for an activity. Students doing anything on an electronic device besides what they are supposed to be doing will lose the privilege of its use and may be subject to additional disciplinary action. You may be permitted to listen to music at specific teacher announced times You must use ear/headphones. No one else should be able to hear it. The device must remain out of sight. That means you will need to pre- select music and leave it on shuffle.

8 Dismissal Follow 10/10 rule: No passes will be given during the first or last 10 minutes of class You, unless otherwise authorized by directions I give, are to remain in your assigned seats from the time you enter the classroom until the bell rings at the end of class. Lining up at the door is not allowed

9 Assessments Be forewarned that when you are taking quizzes or tests, I expect complete silence. Talking is not permitted until every student has turned in their completed assessment. If you violate this rule, you will be given a zero on that assessment and may receive additional disciplinary action.

10 Student Handbook Follow all procedures as outlined in the student handbook including dress code.

11 Behavioral Expectations
My discipline philosophy is founded in the belief that proper discipline will not only facilitate learning, but will also improve our relationship together as a class. I intend for these behavioral expectations to help you become more self-directed and accountable. It is my belief that negative consequences treat only the symptom, not the underlying issue; therefore I aim to avoid the need for negative consequences by providing an intellectually stimulating, organized and respectful environment.

12 Consequences Positive Negative
The intrinsic, personal satisfaction of a job well done Earning strong grades Recognition of accomplishments by teacher Positive notes home If you are disruptive in class, you will receive one warning. I will attempt to redirect your behavior by reinforcing the class expectations and re-visiting our classroom norms. The second time I need to address a behavior with you, (that day or week) I will speak to you alone and follow up by calling/ ing your parents. If the behavior is continuous or severe, you will be sent to the behavior coach &/or receive detention Chronic behavioral issues will be addressed by a student-teacher- parent face-to-face meeting.

13 Collective agreements essential for the functioning of our class
Classroom Norms Collective agreements essential for the functioning of our class

14 Any others? Be kind to each other Express gratitude Be open-minded
Be genuine Smartness isn’t static nor is it singular Practice active listening Be assertive and get your questions answered Attend to personal needs before coming to class Cleanup after yourself Contribute to a positive learning environment. Swearing subjects those around you to a negative emotional experience and will not be tolerated. Be motivated! I will try my hardest to make the content interesting if you uphold your end of the bargain: be confident in your abilities and remain dedicated to achieving the task at hand. Any others?
