2. Women & Progressivism Many middle-class women were ready for progress
Women enrolled in college to study medicine, psychology, & sociology
The Progressive Party supported women’s suffrage (right to vote) and an end to child labor

3. Progressive Goals Clean up cities & streets
Plan cities to include sidewalks and parks
Ban or limit alcohol consumption
Increase education
Decrease sickness & disease
Decrease discrimination

5. What were the Progressive issues?
Dangerous workplaces – wanted safer conditions and shorter work days (8 hour day)
Election reforms – average Americans should have better representation
Science, technology, education – believed students should follow a curriculum closely tied to real-life activities

6. Muckrakers
Muckrakers were investigative journalists who helped the Progressive Movement
They wrote news articles or books that shed light on the wrongs of the United States (corruption, poverty & unfair working conditions).
