1 Class Starter I recently read an article saying that the federal government is going to start regulating the amount of salt put into food in restaurants and stores. Is it appropriate for the government to regulate what is put in or on the food of the American people?

The beginning of Trusts Legal bodies created to hold stock/own many other companies Basically companies joining other companies Helped companies to control the markets Seen as un-American and caused poor reputation with the public Up until this point businesses only motive was to make a profit Corporations saw everything as business and competition

6 The Reforms/Acts Sherman Anti-Trust Act- goal was to prevent monopolies Clayton Anti Trust Act- Strengthened the Sherman Act Elkins Act- Outlawed the use of rebates by railroad officials or shippers Interstate Commerce Act- prohibited companies from colluding(working together to fix prices)

7 The Reforms/Acts Hepburn Act- gave power to govt. to set max railroad rates Meat inspection Act- gave power to govt. to inspect meat processing plants Pure Food & Drug Act- made companies accurately label their food and ingredients
