IMS now has 10 released specifications: Meta-Data (1.2.2: see also IEEE LOM) Enterprise (1.1 Final Release, Jul 2002) Content Packaging (v on website: but problems!) Question and Test Interoperability (1.2.1: developments coming) Learner Information Package (1.0 Final Spec, Mar 2001) Reusable Definition of CEOs (1.0 Final Spec, Oct 2002) Digital Repositories Interoperability (1.0, Jan 2003) Accessibility for LIP (1.0 Final Spec, July 2003) Simple Sequencing (1.0 Final Spec, March 2003) Learning Design (1.0 Final Spec, Feb 2003) To download specs and for more info see:

3 IMS Update August 2003: Content Packaging Maintenance
1.1.3 maintenance release came out, but has errors in it. Issues relating to “isVisible” attribute and resulting compatibility of SS & LD still not resolved. “Alternative Resources” (e.g. for accessibility) rejected by Technical Board. These issues now being dealt with- details still not clear. For more detail or to give feedback me. For discussion the EC SIG list.

5 IMS Update August 2003: InterActive Content SIG
Was Active Content, the “Big Bucket” SIG; split off: Simulation SIG & Mobile Learning SIG. Improve runtime model and API functionality. Spec harmonisation and integration for LD, QTI, SS and CP.

Scoping phase: call for use cases Many use cases submitted from around the world. A good number from CETIS EC SIG, Assessment SIG & FE Focus Group. Now available on EC SIG site. IMS has public use case repository: Deadline passed but still accepting use cases; contact me if you have any. From use cases 2 groups for charter development were formed.

Scoping phase: Where we’re up to Group A: Specification harmonization Charter for voting nearly ready Focused on QTI update including harmonizing with CP, LD and SS specs LD & SS update issues deferred; too early Group B: API / datamodel / messaging models Too early for spec development Gathering data from communities of practice After Sept. 8th, will be asking EC SIG for help!

Scoping phase: Group A Charter QTI v.2.0 5 Key objectives: New version of QTI <item> spec to address previously deferred issues Best practice for putting QTI into Content Packages Binding for QTI outcomes in the CMI datamodel Binding for QTI outcomes to Learning Design properties Binding for QTI outcomes to Simple Sequencing objectives

Scoping phase: Group A Charter QTI v.2.0 Out of Scope: QTI v.1 “Selection and Ordering” and “Outcomes Processing” – therefore support for adaptive testing Assessment security issues NB: This charter still has to be approved!
