SHOULD WE EDUCATE THE CHILDREN WHO ARE HERE ILLEGALY, OR ARE CHILDREN OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS?

2. While many think that children of undocumented immigrants are also undocumented, statistics show that 2/3 of them are U.S. born and live in mixed families!!
While many think that parents of children who are undocumented immigrants don’t pay taxes, it has been proven that they do.

3. Undocumented immigrants maintain employment, (90%) of the adults work, which is higher than that of their legal counter parts. Subsequently they do pay the same consumption, real estate taxes as all else. Even through rents, they pay real estate taxes. Educational funding is dependant upon these taxes!

4. While many think that a large percentage of school children are undocumented, only 1.5% (k-5) are. 3% (6-12) grade were of undocumented parents.

5. Unbeknown to many, undocumented workers pay at least $1 million more in taxes per year than what state and local govt. spends on education

6. While many of us think there are no laws to protect the undocumented student, think again!!
--legislation requires public schools to not require a student show proof of legalization and that they are entitled to education in the public school systems.

7. While so many think that “all” undocumented immigrants/workers/students are from Mexico, think again!
54% are from Mexico (the majority)
22% are from Central and South America
The rest are from elsewhere: Europe, Asia, etc.

8. conclusion
All teachers must remember that if their student is undocumented, they must be treated the same as those here legally!!
