A database consists of individual records and these records consist of fields, Each field contains a particular type of information, an author name, a title etc. In many of the Ovid databases, you can divide this field list into three parts, information which comes from the author – titles, abstracts, author names, information about the location of the work – journal name, volume, issue page or descriptive information which is added about the work – subject descriptions, document types, broad subject categories for example. Within an Ovid database usually all the fields are searchable and in the majority they are also browsable. So in an Ovid database you have the greatest access into the data which is possible.

Say: Here is access to the subscribed full-text journals and books and the Nursing Database. This product will also be presented as part of the OvidSP database selection screen. A number of journals must be purchased with the product (or must already be subscribed), additional books, journals and databases may be purchased or available from existing subscriptions. Only databases which would be useful to nurses will be available (the display is filtered, as are the books).

Say: Here is the main search page, this time from the Advanced Search, the configurations and defaults for this new product may be different from the selections within OvidSP for only a limited number of settings, talk to Support if the customer requests changes. If the customer required IP based access, the portal and Ovid Nursing Database will be available on the OvidSP database selection screen. Similar configuration choices can be offered – default search mode, search history open/closed and position (above/below), limits open/closed etc, contact Support for advice. Note that Universal searching is possible from Advanced searching (any search type) and Basic Search.

34. Say: Here is an advanced search example, note there is no mapping if you are searching the Ovid Nursing Database and as a multifile environment. Use truncation, wildcards or synonyms for extensive searching. The results are LIFO (with the most recently added offered first). Duplicate removal is not necessary if this is a mixture of database and book records with different characteristics (multifile searching in groups of databases is also possible and duplicate removal is recommended).

Say: Here is the main search page, including the new colors of and the additional limits and access points associated with this portal. “Point of Care – Nursing Advisor” is a click through to the Nursing Advisor choice within ClinEguide. The Point of Care and Training and Development limits allow you to select those types of publications within a search result (just like a document type limit).
Each subscription includes access to three Ovid Universal Search connectors, and Universal Search can be activated for searches from both the Basic Search and the Advanced Ovid Search modes (including mapped, keyword, author, title and journal name searches).
The Full Text Only tickbox and the Full Text limit perform the same function (but the tickbox is always visible). Otherwise the choices on the screen are the same as OvidSP.

41. Other Searching Modes (Nursing@Ovid)
Say: The other searching modes are identical with OvidSP. The Thesaurus access from Search Tools or mapping is not to MeSH, it’s to the Ovid Nursing thesaurus (with auto Explode and an NISO “flat” structure like PsycInfo). This database, like the original Ovid Nursing Fulltext Plus product was based on a journal list with complete coverage across those titles (about 280/290 with name changes). The list of journals come from within Ovid Medline 1950-present (though coverage dates vary by journal).
