What is St. Patrick’s Day?
March 17 observance of the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland began as a religious feast day in the 17th century is a celebration of Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, and a whole lot of green.

St Patrick born in Britain
brought Christianity to Ireland, which was pagan at the time mixed pagan rituals/symbols with Christian ones to help convert the Irish also said to have banished snakes from Ireland

Why is it so popular? The Great Famine: Irish people were starving in Ireland because of crop failure(potatoes) in conjunction with British Taxes on food(the Corn Laws which taxed over grains)so they came to America in the 18th century As a way of preserving their identity, this feast day holiday became a celebration of Irish heritage and culture

Why do we wear green? History: Ireland fought a war of rebellion against Britain (1798) British soldiers generally wore red and the Irish wore green
