Early Life Charles Robert Darwin was born on February 12, 1809 in Shrewsbury, England. His parents were Dr. Robert and Susannah Darwin. His grandfather was Erasmus Darwin, well known at the time as a scientist with unusual ideas.

Evolution The theory of evolution was developed by the English naturalist, Charles Darwin. It is the theory that over thousands of years civilisations change and adapt to their environment. For example Darwin believes humans evolved from monkeys.
4
Survival of the Fittest
Survival of the fittest is when the fastest, strongest animal survives to breed with the other fittest, producing the fittest possible of their breed.
5
A Different View Darwin was mocked in the press for his ideas about evolution. There is also controversy about his idea of evolution because it is seen to be against Christian views.

The Beagle Journey Naturalist Charles Darwin developed theories on evolution at sea on the HMS Beagle, although the journey was originally meant to be 2 years long, Darwin spent nearly 5 years on the water! 1831–36(3years 3months on land and 18months at sea.) Darwin is England's most celebrated naturalist, best known for his work On the book Origin of Species, published in 1859

Beetle Collection Darwin spent lots of his time beetle collecting and had many rare species of beetles. This is a letter he sent to his friend, Leonard Jenyns while at university. “under a piece of bark I found two Carabi …& caught one in each hand, when lo & behold I saw a sacred Panagæus crux major; I could not bear to give up either of my Carabi, & to lose Panagæus was out of the question, so that in despair I gently seized one of the Carabi between my teeth, when to my unspeakable disgust & pain the little inconsiderate beast squirted his acid down my throat and I lost both Carabi & Panagæus!”
