Broaden your horizon Enhances individual maturity Internationally recognised degrees (Taught in English) European Credit System (ECTS) Even though you still have an international environment in UK universities, you don’t integrate with international people as much because it seems ‘easier’ to get along with other Brits. Meet international people more frequently than in UK (not cliquey with other Brits) Learn how to deal with various issues and situations in an environment which is new and unfamiliar (quite a challenge!) Willingness to try new things Cultural sensitivity, adaptability and language skills will be very much in demand once you graduate. Why study abroad? How much? (Amsterdam) Tuition fees 2013 - €1,835 (approx. £1583)
Other European countries are free! Living expenses (€850-€1300/month) Housing allowances available €142/month grant from government from €500 overall cost (incl. utilities) €135 for €450 overall rent €365 basic rent got €142 off that (basically get some money refunded back) Highest limit of living allowances NOT STUDENT HOUSING ALLOWANCE (must live alone) – basic rent must below €374 and above €200/210 scalar Grant 50 hours/month can get QEHS – Studying Abroad

Country specific – uni specific Netherlands – Studielink (deadline in April for Maastricht) UvA – direct application Motivation letter – similar to personal statement Accept 20-25% of applicants 1/3 forced out Dropout rate is approx 50% overall 15% leave voluntarily Previous year 115 admitted 65 stayed for second year Mathematics is essential – on the other hand it is doable, small entrance exam Looking for ambitious people – want an internationally focused in their future prospects QEHS – Studying Abroad
