Lesson #3: Peter’s Walk Matthew 14:22-33

Peter the Encourager Introduction
A main event before Peter’s walk on the water was the calling of the Twelve – Luke 6:13-16; Matthew 10:2-4. The feeding of the 5,000 forms the background for the teaching on the Lake. John focused on the lesson the disciples were to learn from the feeding – John 6:1-15.

Matthew 14:22-23 Solitude for Prayer
Jesus removed His disciples from the crowd who could persuade them to follow their agenda. The crowd wanted to make Jesus King for the wrong reason. Jesus did not go along with an agenda that ran contrary to the Father’s plan – Philippians 2:5-8.

Vs – Storm at Sea.

Matthew 14:24-27 Storm at Sea The storm prevented the disciples from going over to the other side. Jesus’ walking on the water testified to His deity. Jesus calmed their fears with His comforting words.

Matthew 14:28-31 Peter’s Faith
Peter’s faith action indicates he was maturing in the faith. Although Peter got distracted, He knew who to cast his cares upon – 1 Peter 5:7.

Peter the Encourager Biblical Thoughts:
Do not be surprised to find yourself in the middle of a storm while doing the will of God – 1 Peter 2:19-20. Sometimes the greatest struggles in life result in greater understanding of God. Jesus must become more real to us as than the storms we face.

Peter the Encourager Biblical Thoughts:
Focus on our circumstances destroys our walk of faith – Romans 4:19-21. Recovery from failure involves growing by the pure milk of the Word – 1 Peter 2:1-3.
