Good morning everyone! My name is Manoj Sharma, a senior architect within the Open Business Unit on the Innovations team. Today I will talk through the evolution of the API landscape, including SMART technologies, at Allscripts.

This business unit introduced the first generation proprietary API method called “Unity” in Our focus during those initial API days was to work on bringing a technical solution to a need we saw for accessibility to clinical EMR data.
As this technology matured within our main three core EHRs covering Acute and ambulatory care across all practice settings, Sunrise/TouchWorks/Professional EHRs, we introduced a partnership model to support developers wanting to use the API technology in 2011.
This model focused on enhancing accessibility of solutions offered by our partners, so in 2014 our online Application Store and the Allscripts Developer Portal, improving developer need to access welcome kits, tools and documentation to code to and utilize the API’s.
Let’s fast forward to today, our proprietary Open APIs has been used over two and half billion times bi-directionally to exchange data with our Allscripts core solutions over the past 10 years.
But our roadmap for 2017, we will be deploying to our clinical clients FHIR connectivity, with our Meaningful Use 3 upgrade packages needed for certification. What this means is that the API approach and the Developer Program, which has evolved over the last 10 years, is the natural home for the newly SMART on FHIR and CDS Hooks initiatives.

Earlier this year Allscripts introduced new ways to integrate with Allscripts products.  Our free, fast FHIR access is available at no charge and with no approval to any individual or company wanting to use Allscripts FHIR APIs. Our integrator tier allows access and deployment of solutions built with Unity, our proprietary API and is a usage based revenue share model.  Finally, our partnership tier that requires approval enables sales and marketing support. Since making this evolution to our program we’ve seen nearly 1000 new participants just since January.
