attendance Our classroom goal is 100% attendance each week. Classroom rewards and School rewards for perfect attendance! Attendance is a huge part of the recipe!

Classroom Management I believe in positive rewards! Watch for the weekly cupcake paper! You will sign it each week. Sometimes, we have a behavior that has to be corrected. You will see either a blue or yellow slip if there is a problem. These need to be signed and returned the following day.

Students are expected to…
Be at school, on time, ready to work and learn. Record assignments in planner just as they are written on the board. Do their personal best work! Show RESPECT for themselves, classmates, and adults. Ask questions! Have fun!

Parents are expected to…
Provide a quiet place for studying. Sign planner every evening. Support student effort to learn new skills. Contact teacher if a problem exists. Check Harmony to see status of student’s work. Be an advocate—a team member seeking the best for your child!

Teacher is expected to…
Support student learning in creative ways. Help your child grow and become more accountable for his or her education! Keep open communication with you! Use data to determine what skills your child needs to be successful!

Some Parent questions each year…
Can I help? Yes! We welcome help. But one must have a background check before working in the classrooms, chaperoning field trips, or helping with our parties! You can do your background check online! Check with Ms. Sutherland if you need help. Can I send birthday treats? Yes, but please check with me. I can let you know what time would be best and if we have students with certain allergies. If you are planning a birthday party for home, please feel free to pass out invitations at school ONLY IF everyone is invited, or if all the girls OR boys are invited.

This will be a transition year…
Organization will be key… More independence for learning… More complex skills and thinking… “K-2 students are learning to read; 3rd and up are reading to learn.”

100% Digital—So if someone forgets books, access info on line! More complex text! Reading tests cover skills not the weekly story! Includes Spelling! Learning Centers! Technology!

Accelerated Reader On-line comprehension tests to see how much your students understand about books they have chosen to read. Students need to accumulate 10 points per grading period. Effort does show on report card!

Math… Hands-on activities that challenge students to think and apply the skills for real world problems! Math facts will help students find success!
