2 No smoking This sign appears in MTR station and it shows ’No smoking’.
‘No’ is an adverb and it is used to modify the verb ‘smoking’.

3 ‘Smoke’ is usually used as a noun, here by adding ‘ing’ , it becomes a noun. As it is acceptable to add ‘ing ’ after the verb ‘smoke’ to make it be a noun, there is no grammatical mistake. Besides, the grammatical structure is correct because the noun comes after the adjective. This sign construes an imperative mood because there is any Subject or Finite and it starts with the word ’No’, and it shows a negative polarity. Therefore, this sign is showing that smoking is not allowed in the MTR station.

4 Fire Door To Be Kept Closed
This sign appears in a buildings in Hong Kong.

5 The word ‘closed’ is regarded as adjective to modify the door .
This sign construes an indicated declarative mood because passive voice is used ,i.e. to be kept , which makes the meaning of giving information. Besides, this sign is grammatically correct because ‘to-infinitive’ belongs to non-finite clause. Therefore, there is no finite in this sign is grammatically correct. The word ‘closed’ is regarded as adjective to modify the door .
