2 Location California, USA Monterey County West of San Joaquin Valley
South of the San Francisco Bay Population of about 150,400

3 Geographical Features
In between two mountain ranges Gabalin Ranges and San Lucia Range Total area of the city is 23.2 square miles Total elevation is 52 feet ASL.

4 Climate Salinas Valley is very close to the Monterey Bay, keeping the valley very cool. The coast keeps the valley cool and mild throughout the summer and winter. Salinas Valley is often clouded in marine layer, with fog and low clouds.

5 History Indigenous Salinan natives were living in the Salinas Valley.
Founded two missions Mission San Antonio de Padua and Mission San Miguel Arcángel. Gold rush provided many to come to the Salinas Valley. Farming would prove very plentiful.

6 History Cont. During the Depression, Salinas Valley became a great place for migrant workers to flourish in the seasonal jobs.

7 Jobs Jobs on the farms would usually be low-paying and menial.
These jobs involved a lot picking, tending, digging, cutting, harvesting, and carrying. Farms produce fruits and vegetables.

8 John Steinbeck’s Relation
John Steinbeck was born and raised in Salinas, California. Steinbeck felt very inspired by the landscapes around him. Steinbeck wrote the setting of Salinas Valley for many of his books.
