6 Purpose and Overview Goal: To provide youth participants with short-term occupational skill building that can enhance job seeking prospects and be replicated or scaled up in future programming. Target Population: Applicants can target the program to younger teens (15-17) and/or non-minors (18 -21). Target pop: Applicants should consider a youth subset that makes sense for the industry area and/or the broad skill set needed to explore the topic and make connections to an academic interest (e.g., language arts; numeracy; STEM).

7 Eligible Youth Participants
Income eligibility for Year-Round 2017/18: Young people eligible to participate in YouthWorks if family income does not exceed annual equivalent of 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. (~$49K for Family of 4) Age eligibility: (in school or out of school)

9 Eligible Applicants & Funding Levels
Eligible Applicants: Workforce development boards; Career Centers; Community-based Organizations; and High Schools/Schools with Chapter 74 approved programs Funding Availability: Commonwealth Corporation anticipates awarding up to five grants (up to $75,000 each) through competitive process.

10 Program Design 1) Occupational training models designed for small cohorts of youth participants. Use of advisory group and competency-based assessment to promote learning goals. 2) Expanded work-readiness/career exploration Minimum of 20 hours using the Signal Success curriculum (

11 Program Design Technical skill focus Access to instructional expertise
Access to related equipment and/or resources Suggestions for a training focus include: IT/coding; health careers; hospitality and/or culinary arts; media arts; bike repair; barista/coffee house; horticulture; EMT/First Aid, or child care

12 Program Requirements Cohort Size: At least 20 participants (ages 15-21). Cohort Focus: At least 10 youth participants must receive occupational training The remaining number of participants can be placed in short-term subsidized jobs. Focus Occupational Training (10) Subsidized jobs (10) # of training/work hours 80 100 Signal Success hrs. 20 Total 120

13 Program Requirements Planning Process: Program design of occupational training must be vetted by advisory group that includes at least one employer partner in related industry area Assessment: Must outline learning goals and performance measures (i.e., portfolios, badging, pre-post assessment instrument etc.)
