12 2 B) Explain why the Explain why Mary Queen of Scots was a threat to Elizabeth’s reign. You may use the following in your answer: • Ridofli Plot Execution You must also use information of your own. 12 marks One reason why Mary Queen of Scots was a threat to Elizabeth’s reign was because of different plots she was involved in. An example of this was the Ridolfi Plot in This involved several important English noble men conspiring with the Pope and the King of Spain to replace or murder Elizabeth. Mary Stuart would then replace her as the new Catholic Queen. This meant Mary was a threat because she was at the centre of the plan and had helped to organise the plot by sending messages aboard. Another reason was that all plots to restore England to the Catholic Church were centred around Mary. This was because while Mary lived, there was an alternative Catholic Queen to Elizabeth. Elizabeth would have felt threatened because the plot showed how even her top nobles were not loyal and could be persuaded by Mary
