Introduction to Business (22-28 Students)

3 Objectives Students will be able to:
Identify and prioritize some of your personal and financial goals Identify the steps you can take and the resources you will need to achieve your goals Understand the components of a budget Create and calculate an individualized budget Keep financial records to assist in planning Demonstrate effective decision making in spending and saving

5 Timeline This project takes a little over a week to complete
Broken down into 5 parts: Choose a Career & complete research Breakdown your Budget (Excel Spreadsheet) Finding a Home (Apartment) Finding a Car (Transportation) Analyzing your Budget

6 Brief Description Are you ready for the real world?  Complete the steps listed below to see if you are ready to move out and live on your own.  What are you doing NOW to prepare for TOMORROW?  Think about your wants and your needs and get excited - this is your life to live! To make this as realistic as possible, choose 1 of 2 options: Option 1 - create a budget as if you were moving out immediately after high school, getting a job and supporting yourself (choose a job accordingly without a college education). Option 2 - create a budget as if you just accepted a position in your desired profession after attending college or a trade school.

Basic Skills: Set appropriate column widths and text alignment on data • Demonstrate effective formatting (background colors, Borders, fonts, etc.) • Create formulas using equal sign and basic operators (+, -, *, /) • Create formulas by using Excel’s built-in functions (sum, min, max, range, etc.) Skills Used: Create formulas by using cell references across different sheets • Create a formula by using an absolute reference • Use conditional formatting • Hyper linking to other documents or web pages Advanced Skills Graphing and Charts

9 Evaluating the Data Students will create a monthly budget using income based on their chosen career for the future Students will deduct taxes to figure out their monthly net income to be spent on the following expenses: Rent, Internet/cable, Utilities, Car Payment, Groceries, Car Expenses, Restaurant/takeout, MISC., Student Loans, Credit Cards, Savings and any additional expenses they would like to add Students will have to complete a full analysis of their budget and graph their expenses to determine what categories they spent the most money in for the month
