What is Coevolution? Coevolution is a cause and effect – if one thing causes something to change, then the individual living there has to adapt to the change in order to survive. Two species evolve together because they affect each other. Coevolution is the influence of closely related species on each other in their evolution.

Example 1: Garter snake – Rough Skinned Newt
Over the years, the potency of the toxin of the Newts have increased to survive from predators. But the Garter snake has grown an immunity to the toxins. (Toxic tolerance)

The Clownfish and Sea Anemone are in a mutual relationship. The Clownfish chases the Butterfly fish which is the predator of the Sea Anemone and the Sea Anemone protects the Clownfish by using the stinging tentacles.

The Agouti grew harder teeth to eat the Brazil Nuts, but the Brazil Nuts increased the number of seeds inside the nut, so the Agouti would bury the seeds and forget about it.

Example 4: Pollination The Flower has nectar that the bees are attracted to and collect, as pollen is spread on the bees which pollinates the flowers.

Example 5: Shark – Remoras
The Remora Fish attach themselves to sharks and eat all the remains it leaves by. The Sharks stay clean, and the remora fish gets food.
