In-house Maintained Hardware
Worker Nodes – The Cluster did consist of 880 when at full strength, plus a test-bed rack of nodes(20). However some have now been used as servers, and a number have been retired. Servers – these include the Computer Elements, Kickstart, NFS, Web, Mail, DPM, VOMS, RT, DHCP and DNS. Presently there are still approx 860 operational machines plus network infrastructure, which includes 46 network switches. Almost all of these are Dell™ PowerEdge™ SC1425 machines, and incidentally have proved to be very reliable, running 24/7 for over 4 years. There are also a number of Shuttle units and SuperMicro ™ machines that are still providing various services. The Dell service contract ran out 18 months ago and the hardware has been maintained and serviced solely by members of the Tier2 since then.
