Aerophobia Aerophobia, also known as Aviophobia, is the fear of flying using any means of flying vehicles. In some patients, Aerophobia may be present along with other fears or phobias like Claustrophobia (fear of closed and confined spaces) or Acrophobia (fear of heights). Nearly 25% of air travelers are known to suffer from this phobia.

Mysophobia Myso is the Greek word for germs and Phobos means fear. Thus, Mysophobia is the excessive and often irrational fear of microbes or getting contaminated with germs. People with an excessive fear of germs believe the world to be a ‘filthy place’. As a result, they are always washing or cleaning. They are known to spend major parts of their day doing these activities. They may also spend vast amounts of money on buying cleaning products thereby exposing themselves to harmful chemicals which the majority of them contain.

Claustrophobia The word claustrophobia comes from the Latin word claustrum which means "a shut place" and Greek phobos meaning "fear". Claustrophobia sufferers will commonly try to avoid being in enclosed spaces such as elevators ,caves or extremely small spaces. People with claustrophobia can find the disorder hard to live with, as they will go to great lengths to avoid small spaces and situations that trigger their panic and anxiety. They will avoid certain places like the subway/underground and will prefer to take the stairs over using a lift/elevator no matter how many floors they need to ascend/descend.

Agorophobia Agoraphobia are the fits of stress which you experience when you are among many people. For this reason sufferers avoid places or situations that might cause them to panic and feel trapped, helpless or embarrassed. People who suffer from agoraphobia often have a hard time feeling safe in any public place, especially where crowds gather. They feel that they need a companion, such as a relative or friend, to go with them to public places. The fears can be so acute that sufferers may feel unable to leave their home. Agoraphobia treatment can be challenging because it takes many years to overcome some fears. But with talk therapy (psychotherapy) and medications this condition might be effectively dealt with.

Arachnophobia Arachnophobia or the fear of spiders is the oldest and most common phobia in the Western culture. The word Arachnophobia is derived from the Greek word ‘arachne’ meaning spiders. The response to spiders shown by an arachnophobic individual may seem irrational to others and often to the sufferer himself.
