3 What does God say about my relationship with Him?
Truth or Myth: Lesson 3

4 Myth Truth “God isn’t really interested in me.”
God loves you. He has changed you and has provided a way for you to have an intimate and secure relationship with Him.

5 John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, John 1:12

6 John 5:24   “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. John 5:24

7 2Cor. 1:22 who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.
2 Corinthians 1:22

8 2Cor. 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:17–20

9 Rom. 5:1   Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, Romans 5:1

10 Rom. 5:19 For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous. Romans 5:19

11 Rom. 6:6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; Romans 6:6

12 Rom. 6:18 and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
Romans 6:18

13 Rom. 8:1   Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:1

14 Rom. 8:10 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. Romans 8:10

15 Rom. 8:15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. Romans 8:15–17

16 17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. Romans 8:17

17 1John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us. 1 John 1:8, 10

18 1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

19 John 10:28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. John 10:28–29

20 John 19:30 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. John 19:30

21 Discussion When you trust Christ as your Savior, you begin a new, personal relationship with Him. How is this relationship similar to your earthly father/child relationship? How is it different? Do you think it is important to be confident that you have a secure relationship with Christ? Why or why not?
