6 A historic day for Usharek students!
The House of Representatives Abolishes Controversial Article 308 Since 2013, students have run advocacy campaigns across Jordan to abolish article 308 of the Penal Code and called for adopting better psychological and legal measures to protect victims of rape and molestation in Jordan.

7 “PROTECT HER INSTEAD!” Students from Al Al-Bayt University and Jadara University led two campaigns against harassment over the past two years. the former focused on verbal harassment and the latter to include the word “harassment” with a clear definition in the Penal Code. The current (Article 306) stipulates that acts or speech “offending public modesty” are punishable either by a fine or a prison term of up to six months. However, the word “modesty” is undefined and depends on the interpreters’ inclinations.

8 “My right to protection”
The campaign brought together decision makers and students to discuss the activation of Jordan’s Reform and Rehabilitation Centers Law No. 9 (8-4), to separate the administratively detained from the judicially arrested in prisons. The campaign focused on cases related to placing women who are deemed to be threatened in separate shelters, and granting them the petition for their own release. In this campaign, students formed a coalition with the Sisterhood is Global Institute Jordan (SIGI) and gained the support of MP Falak Al-Jamaani.

10 GENDER RELATE DEBATE TOPICS
Medical decisions on behalf of children should be made by the father or the father's father Article 308 encourages rape Increase “quota" seats for women in parliament The right of Jordanian women to pass on citizenship to their children Incorporating severe punishments in the law is the way to solve the phenomenon of harassment If we allow financial compensation for cases of domestic violence fathers would no longer be able to discipline their kids
