Commitment to Christian Mission
From here, and everywhere… to everywhere! Luke 5: Simon Peter’s Missionary ‘Call’ Increasing Commitment for a miraculous Catch
5
Four (4) Levels of Mission
1. Passive Mission: listening to Jesus’ words 2. Proxy Mission: lending Jesus your boat 3. Participatory Mission: launching out with Jesus 4. Partnership in Mission: learning to trust the other
6
3. Participatory Mission: launching out into the deep with Jesus!
Jesus wants Peter’s skills not just his boat! Peter is asked to do the absurd and embracing Peter is given no guarantee or success formula Peter gives the facts yet needs to exercise faith
7

2. Focusing on the past, instead of the future 3. Stay distinctively ‘Christian’ and mission-oriented in a post-modern, secular flux context
8

1. Korea: 100yrs ago ‘Impenetrable’; now the largest churches that worldwide are missionally aggressive 2. Ethiopia: after 20 yrs Marxist rule; new freedom 3. Albania: ‘hardest nation’ to go, wide-open senders!
9
Stories of ‘new things’ springing up among us in the Balkans…?!
1. China: bamboo curtains; largest X’ian population 2. South America: ‘the neglected continent’, now 2nd reformation in missions (David Ruez) 3. Indonesia: world’s largest Muslim state >20% Xian 4. Africa: ‘Dark continent’; now > Xians than the West 5. India: ‘pagans’ Carey came to reach now largest mission internal-external sending nations 6. The Balkans:…?
10

Moving.. from Maintenance to Missional mode from the Fringes to become the Fulcrum from Complaining, Criticizing to Cooperation from Expecting to Attempting ‘new, great things’
