ICTs and the SDGs “The spread of information and communication technology and global interconnectedness has great potential to accelerate human progress, to bridge the digital divide and to develop knowledge societies, as does scientific and technological innovation across areas as diverse as medicine and energy”. Agenda for Sustainable Development (Paragraph 15) ___________________________________________ ICTs are catalytic drivers to enable the achievement of all the SDGs Specifically referenced in the SDG targets: SDG4 Quality Education (4b) SDG5 Gender Equality (5b) SDG9 Industry, innovation and Infrastructure (9c) SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals (17.8, as a means of implementation)

#ICT4SDG Campaign: overview
ITU’s new campaign has been developed to showcase the contribution and success stories of ITU members in the promotion of telecommunications and ICT as a catalyst for sustainable development and the achievement of the SDGs. The campaign will: Be anchored in SDG9c, universal and affordable access, and expand out to include all SDGs esp. SDG4, 5, 17. Demonstrate how achieving global connectivity will lead to significant progress towards achieving all the other SDGs Flexible campaign enabling member and partner buy-in and ownership ensuring it remains relevant to all ITU stakeholders with targeted messaging. The campaign can be created indefinitely with new stories Offer a number of platforms for members to showcase their SDG value (SDG microsite, ITU blog, Curation of relevant SDG content, etc.) Highlighting technical expertise with societal impact of ITU’s work

Using the tagline “fast forward together” we will be highlighting the potential of ICTs to be catalytic drivers towards achieving the SDGs The fast forward together can be adapted, e.g. fast forward health fast forward education fast forward climate action

Available content Online toolkit
SDG microsite on ITU’s domain ; New look and feel and branding underway, incl. toolkit integration More SDG specific content will be added on an on-going basis Dedicated YouTube #ICT4SDG channel, including Videos of Broadband Commission members Dr. David Nabarro, UN Special Adviser on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, interviewed on the role of ICTs for the SDGs Blog posts on ICT4SDGs are regularly being added Mapping tool Posters and Roll-ups Available online with regular addition of content Powerful short examples of ICT contributions to achieving the SDGs with colourful backgrounds using the colour of the specific SDG logo it refers to. One poster per SDG

Currently underway Support and work with members in use of the collaterals Create additional posters for the remaining SDGs Animated e-posters of the SDG posters and animated gifs for social media Formalizing collaboration on SDG-9 with UNIDO, incl. setting up a SDG-9 mini summit at WSIS ITU News e-magazine edition focusing on the SDGs 1st June Ramping up social media presence on #ICT4SDG

Showcase examples of their use of ICTs in achieving the SDGs Enable them to use our posters and add their branding or re-create their own posters using our content Share stories on our dedicated website Plan joint events and collaboration

Booth Concept – Putting Yourself into the Campaign
ITU stakeholders will be able to re-create the poster designs and their look and feel with a booth where they can take a picture of themselves in front of the background illustrating the SDG of their choice. Photo-opportunities for: ITU staff ITU Members Other stakeholders Can be located at HQ or in stands at events
