Dalry I Pad Meeting 29th August 2017
Hello and Thank you for coming. My name is Lesley Laidler and I am the ICT co-coordinator for the school. I have overall responsibility for the school I pads and this is Michaela Mason the primary 7 teacher who has the day to day responsibility of the I pads. The purpose of tonight’s presentation is to go over the schools vision regarding the I pads and the expectations that we have regarding the care and use of them.

Dalry’s ICT Vision Have access to ICT whenever and wherever it is beneficial to learning, both in and out of school. This will be achieved through a blended approach to the provision of ICT involving local authority and school 1:1 devices. Raise the achievement of all pupils through the development of ICT and the effective deployment of a range of stimulating and creative technologies for learning across the whole curriculum and age range. Work in partnership with the school to support learning and homework. We now live in an era of rapid changes & advancements in technology. The changes are so rapid it is hard to believe that the first I pad was only released on April 3rd 2010 and there have been 4 versions since then. One of our jobs as educators is to ensure that we provide our children the tools to equip them for life in the modern world. The jobs that they will be employed in probably do not exist at the moment. Think for a moment about the technology that is around us. Marks & Spencers use touch screen technology to allow customers access to stock information, that is just 1 example. Dalry is very fortunate to have supportive parents and we are confident that we can rely on your continued support with regards to your childs I pad use not only now but continuing on to high school.

Pupil /Parent Responsibility
A pupil contract must be signed. A parent contract must be signed Responsible use of the Internet contract must be signed. The primary 7 pupils have been very lucky. Each pupil has been issued with a brand new I pad mini rather than being issued with last years primary 7 I pads. These have been distributed throughout the school for class room use, however with this comes responsibilities. As a school we are fully aware that accidents will happen however last year 10 devices were damaged. A 1/3 of p7 devices. Part of the problem we believed was the style of case and the school has addressed this .The cost to fix a broken screen is £78.The school has decided that before any device is taken off of school premises that 3 contracts must be signed by both parent/carer. This can be signed tonight or you may prefer to read over at home and return. We also require all pupils to sign a responsible internet use contract. Dalry take E safety very seriously. You would not keep your front door open and allow strangers access to your personal life, it is the same on line.

Ownership & Care of the School I Pads
The I pads will remain the property of the school and are only for their use while they remain pupils at Dalry. I pads are subject to spot checks by members of the senior management team, class teacher or my self at any time. The I pads will remain the property of the school and the school has certain standards that must be adhered to. The school exercises the right to spot check the I pads at any time. Pupils should not attempt to modify the hardware in any way. apply any stickers or decorations to the iPad, swap iPads with another pupil, dispose of or sell the iPad. A protective case will be provided by the school which can: prop the iPad into a “typing” position, fold closed in a manner that protects the iPad screen. It is important to stress that whilst the I pad is on school premises, the device is covered under school insurance, when the device is taken off the school premises, pupil/parents will have to cover the cost of any damages that may occur. The school will apply a name sticker to the case and iPad so that teachers can easily determine ownership.

Management of I Pad Configuration
The I Pads will be managed by the school in the same way as our laptop and desktop computers. The school’s ‘Technology and Internet Responsible Use Contract’ applies to all school-supplied equipment and to all school-supplied internet connections. Pupils are reminded that the contract applies to iPad use in any location – home or school. Remove applications from the iPad. For example each I pad has an app called meraki installed on it. Under no circumstances is this to be removed. One of its functions is to track the device if it has been lost or stolen. Change any configuration settings on the iPad. Under no circumstances are the passwords to be changed or the apple id changed, the school has to comply with Edinburgh Council regulations and the devices have all been set up to reflect this. Erase the iPad on another computer or synchronise the iPad with a computer outside of school. Clear their browser history, except as directed by staff.

Home Use Notes on home use:
Pupils should charge iPads at home and bring them to school charged. Do not bring the charger or sync cable to school. Pupils are allowed to connect their iPad to other Wi-Fi networks but the school cannot provide any technical support in doing this. Parents are responsible for providing any content filtering or restrictions on their own networks and for monitoring usage at home. Once parents and pupils have read and signed this ‘iPad Responsible Use Contract’ pupils will be allowed to take the devices home. Note that this privilege may be revoked by the school at any time.
