Review (Do Now) Total Time: 10 minutes
Do 3 problems (one problem from each column), raise your hand, repeat. 1) GRAPH: 2) DISTRIBUTE A(B+C) 3) DISTRIBUTE (A + 3)(N + 4) 4) Is the graph above ^^ LINEAR or QUADRATIC? 5) What is: (3)(4)(-1) = ? (-3)(4)(-1) = ? (3)(-4)(-1) = ? (-3)(-4)(-1) = ? 6) DISTRIBUTE (8 + 4)(M + 6) 7) GRAPH: 8) What is: 14A + 2A = ? 8AB – 2AB = ? 5AC + 1C = ? 9) DISTRIBUTE (-2K + 3B)(4 – 6D) X Y 8 2 6 4 X Y -3 -1 -2 -4

Objective Total Time: 2 minutes
OBJECTIVE: SWBAT combine like terms by applying the distributive property and scoring at least 6/9 on the “Distributive Property + Like Terms” worksheet. TURN AND TALK What is today’s objective in your own words? How does it relate to what we have been doing? Is there any new vocabulary?

“Like Terms” Worksheet Total Time: 20 minutes
What are Like Terms? Two terms are LIKE TERMS if they have the same variable raised to the same power. Examples/NonExamples 2A and 2B 2K and 5K 3AB and 5B 5A2 and -3A -3CD and 5CD When I say go, silently and independently take 4 minutes to match numbers 1 through 7 with a through g. NOT LIKE TERMS LIKE TERMS

Quote of the Day 15 seconds
Reflection First period was a disaster. Didn’t prepare how I was going to teach this. The worksheets were kinda sucky. How I should do it: Define Like Terms (on powerpoint). Make more emphatic. Go through examples of like/unlike terms together as class. Have volunteers. The problems are good, especially scaffolding up to the one with A2 Then ask, what’s the point of all this? Emphasize: “You can only combine like terms”. What does combine me? (give bonus for Add or subtract) Then combine the examples on the powerpoint. Then have students match the columns. And then find the total (Try to clean up the sheet. It was kinda confusing). Then do WHIPAROUND to go through answers. == Proceed to let students to do number 8 – 13 or whatever problem. (Put directions on powerpoint). Proceed to other side when done. NEED to get to last problems, so maybe I should put the last question on the back higher up so students get to A2 + 5A + 2A + 7 (or whatever it was). Need to learn to combine them. Number 8 to number 9 was great. But want to tell students beforehand (in definition of like terms that you cant combine unlike terms. === Problems were a bit dry, how do I make more engaging?
