3 Classroom Rules 1. Follow directions the first time.
2. Listen when others are speaking. 3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 4. Show respect for school and personal property. 5. Work quietly and do not disturb others. 6. Raise your hand before you speak.

5 Promoting Character Education Bucket Filler
Students can receive a“Bucket Filler” coupon for showing positive behavior. When students receive these tickets they will write their name on the ticket and place it in a bucket.  At the end of each  month,  I will pick five tickets from the bucket and those students will get a chance to eat lunch with the teacher in the classroom.

Teamwork ~Students will be seated in groups. ~Seats will be switched monthly throughout the school year. ~Teams can earn points for positive behavior .

8 Homework Monday-Thursday •Reading and Math
•At times, spelling homework may be given. •Review high frequency words nightly. •Sign homework planner every night, including Fridays and clean out homework folder.

9 Jackson School District Reading Logs
To promote the love of reading and based on parent survey feedback, the Literacy Department introduces two district reading logs to be used in grades K-5. K-1 District Reading Log 1-5 District Reading Log These reading logs are designed to support the JSD Homework Policy which encourages daily independent reading. Students are encouraged to read nightly and record their reading in order to strengthen the connection between home and school.

11 Reader’s Workshop Students will incorporate independent reading and partner reading into daily routines Aligns directly to Common Core Standards 3 yearly benchmarks will be administered to monitor growth on their reading level September January June

12 Spelling Words their Way. Each student will be assigned a spelling sort based on what they know about words and sounds. Each day of the week your child will complete a different activity to ensure that these words and the spelling principals they represent are mastered.  These activities will be modeled for the first few weeks as a whole class.  Students will be assessed on these sorts.

15 Science and Social Studies
We will be starting a new STEM curriculum for both Science and Social Studies.  STEM will include many hands on activities.

16 Standards Based Report Cards
Progress Indicators: Academic Development 4 = exceeding standard, consistently surpassing grade level expectations independently. *3= meets standard, regularly demonstrates proficiency. 2= partially meets standard, occasionally meets standard, often needs teacher support. 1= below standard, not yet meeting, minimal understanding with support and intervention. Standards Based Report Cards Progress Indicators: Character Development and Work Habits *4 = consistently 3= frequently 2= sometimes 1= inconsistently

17 Birthdays ~Birthdays are very special days. ~If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday with the class, you may send in a small treat. (treenut/peanut allergy) ~As per district procedure, birthdays will be celebrated during the lunch period.
