2 WMO WIS Implementation Plan
BACKGOUND WMO WIS Implementation Plan Framework document and first draft was reviewed by ICG-WIS, 2007 Continued to be updated by EC WG WIGOS-WIS, 2007 Finalised for CBS and the EC, 2008 The concept of WIS was formally adopted - Consolidation of WIS Plan - Establishment of the WMO metadata standard - Development of WIS regulatory documents - Implementation of WIS Part A - Implementation of WIS Part B - Coordination with other major projects Cg XIV, 2003

3 BACKGOUND Cg XV, 2007 CBS XIV, 2009 EC-64, 2012
Part A : the continued consolidation and further improvements of the GTS for time-critical and operation-critical data, including its extension to meet operational requirements of WMO Programmes in addition to the WWW Part B : an extension of the information services through flexible data discovery, access, and retrieval services(DAR services) to authorized users, as well as flexible timely delivery services. Cg XV, 2007 Stressed the need of clear strategy for the implementation of an adequate data communication infrastructure for WIS - at regional and global levels CBS XIV, 2009 EC-64, 2012 Urging to develop regional and national implementation plans for strengthening and further implementing operational WIS functionality before 2015
