1 Figure Legend: From: Visual detection of symmetry of 3D shapes
Journal of Vision. 2010;10(6):4. doi: /10.6.4 Figure Legend: Process of recovery of a symmetric polyhedron. (a) An original image given to the model. (b) A corrected image; the vertices are moved so that the 2D symmetry line segments (dashed contours) become parallel. (c) The virtual image generated by reflecting the real (corrected) image. (d) Only symmetric pairs of vertices that are both visible, along with the edges connecting them are shown. These vertices can be recovered from the real (corrected) image (b) and the virtual image (c). (e) A visible vertex (black circle) whose symmetric counterpart is occluded. This visible vertex can be recovered by applying the constraint of planarity to the contour enclosing the face (the shaded face). (f) An occluded vertex (open circle) whose counterpart (black circle) is visible and recovered in (e). This occluded vertex can be recovered by reflecting the counterpart with respect to the symmetry plane of the polyhedron. (g) The recovered polyhedron is uncorrected by moving the vertices so that the polyhedron is consistent with the original 2D image.
