Diversity Week in Rathoe N.S

What is Diversity? Diversity means to be varied to be different or to be melange. What diversity means to us is to accept others that are different. We think that the world should learn to accept people for who they are and what their ideas are. The speakers came in to tell us how they cope and how they live their lives everyday.

Ciarán and Laura Ryan On Monday the 12th April Ciarán and Laura Ryan came in to speak to us about their religion, and why they enjoy being Christians Laura and Ciarán always loved Christ and their religion They visit Jerusalem once a year and they go to many religious monuments They give guided tours around the Garden of Gethsemane The olive trees in the garden are thought to be thousands of years old.

Ciarán and Laura Ryan Ciarán brought his guitar with him and he sang a song about Christ and all the names you can call him There was over 30 names We quite enjoyed Ciarán and Laura Ryan and we hope they have a nice time in Jerusalem.

Sinéad Burke On Tuesday 13th April Sinéad Burke came in
She has Dwarfism or as she likes to call herself a little person She loves her family and her father is an actor and is also a little person She thinks that just because your different nothing should get in your way She is very inspiring! She is also a primary school teacher

Sinéad Burke Sinéad has met many famous people such as Paul Costello and Ryan Tubridy and many more! She has her own fashion blog and has been on the front covers of lots of magazines She is a role model for anyone who looks different or has a disability She was the first person on the Late Late Show of 2016

Khan Kiely On Thursday 15th of April Khan Kiely came
Khan Kiely is a book shop owner who has Dyslexia and Dyspraxia She owns a book shop in Kilkenny city She always loved books despite her Dyslexia and her book shop is one of the few that has a special section in it with dyslexic friendly books

Khan Kiely She keeps a diary to help her remember things
She has a son that is also has Dyslexia and Dyspraxia and she is able to help him cope with it She was great to listen to and told us alot about Dyslexia and Dypraxia

Thuy Do Finally on Friday 16th of April the mother of Katie from junior infants came in to tell us about her home country Vietnam She says that everybody in Vietnam is very happy She lived in Vietnam for 36 years before she moved to Ireland They grow a lot of rice in Vietnam

Thuy Do They worship their president and he is kept in a glass cabinet where he will be preserved forever. They have a lot of displays such as water puppets It was very interesting and we would love to go there

What did we learn? We learned to accept people for who they are whether they are big or small, look different or talk different. We are all the same but in different ways. We also learned that we all have feelings and they can be hurt very easily. We really enjoyed Diversity week and we hope you enjoyed our presentation!!
