1 Using the “cheat sheet”, make a Venn Diagram about meiosis and mitosis
12/11/15 Admit Slip Using the “cheat sheet”, make a Venn Diagram about meiosis and mitosis Date: 12/11/15 Topic: Meiosis vs. Mitosis Page # ___

2 Date: 12/11/15 Topic: Meiosis vs. Mitosis Page # ___ Today in Room 326/311… HW: Come up with 3 background questions for new science fair project CONTENT OBJ: SWBAT identify/ describe the phases of meiosis LANG. OBJ: SWBAT write notes and verbally provide answers to oral questions AGENDA: AS: Compare/contrast mitosis/meiosis (cheat sheet) Mitosis vs. Meiosis card sort Building a diagram (Mitosis, Meiosis 1 & 2) Science fair project picking

3 Compare/Contrast Cheat sheet! Meiosis vs. Mitosis
Students go up to contribute answers

4 Meiosis vs. Mitosis Card Sort
One sheet with Mitosis One sheet with Meiosis Cut out cards and sort accordingly Glue onto correct sheet Will receive a group “quiz” grade

5 Building a Diagram *Show cell images*
As a class, you need to a build a complete set to represent each stage of mitosis & meiosis Count off by 3 to form groups: -Mitosis 1 -Meiosis 1 -Meiosis 2

6 Title of Stage You will place the chromosomes using pipe cleaners. After I check it, you may draw it. Label Make sure you label all the important parts! Label Label You don’t have to draw the cell, that has been done for you.

7

8 Hang them up! Use the back cabinets as your space to hang them
Make sure they go in the correct order! Mitosis should be on top (left to right) Meiosis 1 & 2 on bottom (left to right)

9 Science Fair Need to reconfigure the projects
I came up with 12 project ideas (4 per class) Look over the list We will vote- everyone can raise their hand 3 times (for their top 3 choices) Top 4 overall picks will be used Draw names to pick projects

10 Exchange Phone #s and Email

11 Make materials list Who can get what?
Anything you CANNOT get, write down project title and materials needed, and hand to me

12 Homework Come up with 3 background questions about your project, that the group can research Example Project: “How do lemons affect penny surface texture?” Example questions: -How does pH affect copper? -What chemical reactions occur with copper? -How do people normally clean pennies?

13 MCAS Open Response Review
Very few even attempted this question!!
