Your two IFP Rigs are almost fully assembled. All that remains is to know how to mount the syringes into the rig. From above each Rig will look like the below when the guide rods and the holding plates are removed. Note the holes in the base where the rods fit. (c) 2012 Mechanical Kits Ltd

This picture shows the top plate and the guide rods removed. This is the first step in disassembling a Rig. The syringe shown in the picture is held by two plates. The top plate is held in place by two wooden pieces that rotate. Next remove the top plate, then the syringe and then the base plate. (c) 2012 Mechanical Kits Ltd

Here’s the top view again with the rods, plates and syringe removed. There are different sized holes in the plates designed to hold different sized syringes. The larger hole is for the 60cc syringe. (c) 2012 Mechanical Kits Ltd

These pictures shows the syringe held vertically by the plates. The syringe is now ready for investigation with the addition of the cup that will hold masses in it. (c) 2012 Mechanical Kits Ltd

7 (c) 2012 Mechanical Kits Ltd
The cup fits between the guide rods and on the top plate – the plate that has its corners trimmed (c) 2012 Mechanical Kits Ltd

The syringe in the Rig is connected to another syringe, in this case of equal volume. If the mounted syringe is fully closed then the other syringe will be fully open. To begin the investigation fully extend the mounted syringe after noting the mass of the top plate + cup. Add mass to the cup to measure the mass required to depress the mounted syringe. In this picture the two Rigs are joined together as an hydraulic lift. This is an investigation of the mechanical advantage implicit in Pascal’s Law. The second Rig houses a 60cc syringe of greater volume. The mass on it is raised by the lesser mass acting on the smaller syringe mounted in the other Rig (c) 2012 Mechanical Kits Ltd
