Date: Monday, June 30th 2014 Topic: Academic Vocabulary (Nouns). Objective: To distinguish different kinds of Nouns.

2 CONCEPTS A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea.
Susan watches the birds in the forest. A singular noun names only one person, place, thing, or idea. The birds live in the forest. A plural noun names more than one person, place, thing, or idea.

3 A common noun names any person, place, or thing.
Buy me a bird, please. A proper noun names a specific person, place, or thing. All proper nouns are capitalized. My best friend is Susan.

4 Practice # 2 Write the nouns in each sentence. Tell if they are common or proper, singular or plural. 1. Rob likes to play music. Rob: Proper/Singular Noun – Music: Common/Singular Noun. 2. We took a trip to the Rocky Mountains. We: Proper/Plural Noun – Trip: Common/Singular Noun – Rocky Mountains: Proper/Plural Noun
