2. The history of Social Media
It started with the BBS. Short for Bulletin Board System, these online meeting places were effectively independently-produced hunks of code that allowed users to communicate with a central system where they could download files or games (many times including pirated software) and post messages to other users. Accessed over telephone lines via a modem, BBSes were often run by hobbyists who carefully nurtured the social aspects and interest-specific nature of their projects – which, more often than not in those early days of computers, was technology-related. But there were also other avenues for social interaction long before the Internet exploded onto the mainstream consciousness. One such option was CompuServe, a service that began life in the 1970s as a business-oriented mainframe computer communication solution, but expanded into the public domain in the late 1980s.

3. Top Social Networking Sites
Here’s the graph of top 15 social networking sites in the world. As you can see Facebook is leading the pack with a huge margin in front of Youtube. Then there’s another gap of similar size to Instagram on the third place.
Facebook now reports 70 million more monthly active users billion.
Instagram announces 600 million users in their blog post.

4. Countries that not allow the use of Social Medias
Although, there has been a rapid growth of social media, which changed the way we interact with eachother, there are still countries that not allow their use. As an example:
Turkey. After revealing that Prime Minister Erdogan’s government was corrupted through Twitter, he abolished the use of them.
Iran. After the disputed presidential election held in 2009, Iranians took to social media to voice their dissent and to organise protests. This led to ban Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.
China. In 2009, China blocked the Big Three (Faceboo, Twitter and Youtube) since the gonverment didn’t want to provide ways in which citizens could publish political and/or national events.
Vientma. Also this country decided to block all the accounts in 2009for political reasons.

6. Social Media Used by Tweens and Teens
Engaging in various forms of social media is a routine activity that research has shown to benefit children and adolescents by enhancing communication, social connection, and even technical skills. Social media sites such as Facebook and MySpace offer multiple daily opportunities for connecting with friends, classmates, and people with shared interests. During the last 5 years, the number of preadolescents and adolescents using such sites has increased dramatically. According to a recent poll, 22% of teenagers log on to their favorite social media site more than 10 times a day, and more than half of adolescents log on to a social media site more than once a day Seventy-five percent of teenagers now own cell phones, and 25% use them for social media, 54% use them for texting, and 24% use them for instant messaging Thus, a large part of this generation's social and emotional development is occurring while on the Internet and on cell phones.
Because of their limited capacity for self-regulation and susceptibility to peer pressure, children and adolescents are at some risk as they navigate and experiment with social media. Recent research indicates that there are frequent online expressions of offline behaviors, such as bullying, clique-forming, and sexual experimentation, that have introduced problems such as cyberbullying, privacy issues, and “sexting.” Other problems that merit awareness include Internet addiction and concurrent sleep deprivation.

7. A world without Social Media
Social media is becoming completely integrated in our lives.  It has altered the way we communicate as human beings and changed the way we do business.  It has flattened corporate hierarchies and tightened our relationships.  Of course, traditional ways of networking and messaging still hold true, such as text messaging, , phone calls and in-person “meetups” (tweetups in the social media world).  The greatest part about this technological alteration is that you get to choose which social networks you want to participate in, how much time you spend per week engaging with others and what your career aspirations are (and how these tools can get you from point A to B).  The decision is yours and the power is in your hands. From a business standpoint, social media tools are free advertising and allow you to target and measure the impact of marketing programs. From the individual perspective, these tools can literally regulate your day-to-day operations and routines.
