1 New Features in SSRS 2016 Avoiding selection of third party tools for creating Reports using new features of SSRS 2016

2 Chart types in SSRS 2016 Two types of Charts are implemented in SSRS 2016 -- Sunburst --Treemap A sunburst graph is a graph type ideal for displaying hierarchical data. It's called a sunburst because if you have an unbalanced hierarchy (meaning some branches stop earlier than others) the chart looks a bit like a sun with rays shooting out. As you can see, a sunburst chart is ideal for giving a sense of how the data relates to a hierarchy and how an outer ring contributes to an inner ring, but it lacks in precision. This example talks about the Regionwise sales and prices of automobile products If u could see, there are different categorized automobile products in Australia. Most of the sales are done for Road Bikes and remaining part comes Mountain bikes etc., We can hover to the particular rectangle to have a glance at the line total for each category in that region. Sunburst lacks precision as such in displaying the data

3 Scenarios for usage of new chart types
Tree Maps, Sunburst charts are an ideal candidate to display hierarchical data.  They work particularly well with ragged hierarchies and clearly indicates where relationships exist.  A ragged hierarchy is when some levels do not automatically roll up to its parent, e.g. an organizational hierarchy.  The CEO may have two managers – one who has a subordinate under them (COO)and the other who is not responsible for anyone (Secretary).

4 Treemap Chart A treemap can display hierarchical data as well and because it uses rectangles, it's a bit easier to compare relative sizes with each other and also displaying quantities for each category via area size. This example, We have hierarchial data about the categorized sales data by territory. If u could see, there are different categorized automobile products in Australia. Most of the sales are done for Road Bikes and remaining part comes Mountain bikes etc., We can hover to the particular rectangle to have a glance at the line total for each category in that region. Treemap lacks precision as such in displaying the data

5 Subscriptions in SSRS 2016 A Reporting Services subscription is a configuration that delivers a report at a specific time or in response to an event, and in a file format that you specify. Subscriptions can be used to schedule and automate the delivery of a report and with a specific set of report parameter values. Windows File share delivery

6 Subscriptions now include a feature for stopping and starting a subscription.

7 Provide description for user and change owner of the subscription

8 Configure a Single Credential for Report Exports to a Shared File Store

9 Power Bi integration with SSRS 2016
In the latest SQL Server 2016 CTP 3.0 a new feature added to SSRS allows the direct pinning of specific objects to your online Power BI dashboards To complete the integration you will need to use the address you used initially to register with on the Power BI site.

10 Verification and logging to Power Bi
On the My Settings screen we can verify that we are logged in and connected to the Power BI site.

11 Power BI button in SSRS report
Once the connection is validated on the My Settings screen, we can then navigate to the report which contains the object(s) we want to pin to the Power BI dashboard. Remember we can only pin gauges, charts, pictures, and maps.

12 Pinning to Power BI After clicking the Pin to Power BI button, you must first select the object to be pinned.

13 Now you are connected to your Power BI site and requested to select the dashboard to pin the object to and how often to refresh the dataset for the object.

14 Limitations for Integration of SSRS reports to Power Bi
First, credentials must be stored in the report in order for the object to refresh. The pinning process actually creates a SSRS subscription which requires stored credentials in order to execute. we can only pin gauges, charts, pictures, and maps

15 Position parameters the way you want
Report author have direct control over parameter positioning. You’ll now see the Parameters pane in Design view, where you can insert a parameter in a particular position or move existing parameters using drag-and-drop. , you can choose the position of each parameter, create more than two columns of parameters, and even insert space between groups of parameters.

16 Export reports to PowerPoint
You can already export reports to Microsoft Word and Excel as well as to other formats such as PDF, but when it comes to presenting information to an audience, PowerPoint is often the tool of choice .We’re excited to add PowerPoint to the list of built-in export formats.

17 Print reports from modern browsers we have a new approach to printing that’s designed for modern browsers and doesn’t require ActiveX. You might recognize the experience if you’ve ever printed from Word Online. When you print a report, you generate a printer-friendly PDF

18 SQL Server R Services SQL Server 2016 comes with the integration of the popular language R into the database engine Using the stored procedure sp_execute_external_script we can use an R script to create a data visualization, also called a plot.  The R script makes use of the Histogram package, a well-known package with powerful data visualization methods.  It's easy to see that with R you can quickly generate powerful data visualizations, some of which are real hard to create in SSRS with out- of-the-box capabilities

19 Example on usage of R Script in SSRS 2016
Consider the analysis of people who fall into different age groups to evaluate the people management in a process. We have used Adventure works DW database, and analyzed the frequency of people who fall into different age groups. The histogram depicts the graph over different age groups on top of no of people allotted in that groups. The benefit of taking the R script is to implement the graphs without actually configuring the axis and chart configurations as such. The title and the axis are retrieved by default when we use the R script in SSRS 2016

20 Mobile Report Publisher
The SQL Server Mobile Report Publisher allows you to create and publish SQL Server mobile reports to your Reporting Services web portal. The Power BI Mobile app for iOS on iPad and iPhone can now display SQL Server mobile reports hosted on your local report server

21 Reporting services web portal
Starting with CTP 3.2, a new Reporting Services web portal is available. This is an updated, modern, portal which incorporates KPIs, Mobile Reports and Paginated Reports. To create Mobile Reports, you will need the Mobile Report Publisher. You can browse to this portal by going to

22 KPIs in the new report manager
Key performance indicators (KPIs) are another exciting addition and a great way to monitor important metrics and trends at a glance – before you even dive into a report. In addition to a metric’s actual value, you can see the variance from the goal, the status (red, amber, green) and trend. Much like you use Report Builder, a desktop app, to design and publish paginated reports, you use Mobile Report Publisher, a new desktop app for Windows 7 and later, to design and publish mobile reports.
