1 Marlins star pitcher Jose Fernandez killed

2 Miami Marlins pitcher José Fernández, who defected from Cuba at 15 and went on to become one of baseball's brightest stars, was killed early Sunday in a boating accident. Fernández, who was 24, and two other men were found dead after their boat was discovered at the entrance of Miami Harbor. Coast Guard personnel on patrol noticed the vessel upside down on the north end of a rocky jetty shortly after 3:15 a.m. Based on impact evidence and the severity of damage, officials concluded the boat -- a 32-foot SeaVee center console model -- hit the rocks at full speed. Top speed on the boat would be between 50 mph and 65 mph. Divers recovered two bodies under the boat, and a third victim was found on the rocks. Fernández was a passenger on the boat, and was not the owner. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the accident, he said, but he added that investigators had been unable to get under the overturned wreckage. Autopsies have not been conducted. None of the three victims was wearing a life vest. Drafted by the Marlins in 2011, he went on to become the franchise's star pitcher, named National League Rookie of the Year 2013 and a two-time All-Star. In addition, he was seen as a pillar in the community and an upstanding person.

3 In Other News Arnold Palmer, known as "the King" for his transformative legacy in golf, has died at the age of 87. He died Sunday evening at a Pittsburgh hospital while awaiting cardiac surgery. Born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, he won more than 90 golf tournaments, including the Masters four times, the U.S. Open in 1960, and the British Open in 1961 and Palmer became the first person to make $1 million playing golf. He and his two great rivals in the "Big Three" -- Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus -- helped take the sport around the globe in the 1960s. Aside from his golf game, he had a legion of adoring fans, GQ Magazine named him one of the "50 most stylish men of the past 50 years" and Esquire had him in a list of the "75 best-dressed men of all time.” Palmer even had a drink named after him -- a mix of lemonade and iced tea that he used to take on the golf course with him in a thermos. Just one point separates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in two states that are critical to both candidates' chances of becoming president, according to new CNN polls in Pennsylvania and Colorado. Pennsylvania's likely voters split 45% for Clinton, 44% for Trump, 6% for Johnson and 3% for Stein. The new results in two battleground states underscore the closeness of the race and come as the candidates prepare to square off Monday night in their high-stakes first debate at Long Island's Hofstra University. The debate is scheduled to begin at 9 pm ET. EAGLES WIN BIG…34-3.
