Work Package 1: Research in history and tourism
Objectives:
to establish a pilot project on how to combine culture, history,
education and tourism in one conception
to discover new historical facts on ancient times in the Baltic
Sea Region to be integrated into the exhibitions and education
programmes
Actions:        
a.) development of a conception on the creation of a sustainable
touristic cultural heritage site with historical, pedagogical and
cultural focus
b.) research in history: ancient times in the BSR
c.) research on existing heritage sites, spectacles, markets,
tournaments, festivals, Internet sites
-> database on findings as a base for tourism products, published on
Internet

Objectives:
to create heritage villages, which are historically related to the
city's/regions' history and integrated into the spatial / city planning
strategy
to create authentic cultural attractions
to exchange know-how on preservation of the existing Baltic Sea-
wide cultural heritage
Actions:        
a.) study visits, exchange of experts (scientists, archaeologists),
research on best-practice examples
b.) signposting, historical walks/routes through the city related to
historical theme
c.) planning; construction; reconstruction of existing sites;
investment in exhibitions/ single buildings

Objectives:
to bring life into the sleeping historical remains and make the
cultural heritage experience-able in an authentic way
to create real events / historical attractions which are related to
the city/ region and its image
Actions:        
a.) planning medieval events within and outside the villages as
sustainable annual tourism attractions
b.) concepts of time travelling to educate visitors in history
c.) establishment of a summer working camp used for voluntary
work at the site

Objectives:
to enlarge existing exhibitions on historical themes with new
innovative interactive concepts in order to bring European history
into people's minds
to improve the quality of existing heritage sites and create a
value-adding aspect for the visitor
Actions:        
a.) demonstration of archaeological findings, integrated do-it-
yourself elements, handicraft creation etc.
b.) visitor management concepts: guiding, visitor involvement for
authentic experiences, handling of groups, “ancient
accommodation"
c.) moving exhibition on historical themes

Objectives:
to promote the existing common cultural heritage/history by
using common historical themes for an increased identification
of citizens with their European roots
Actions:        
a.) authentic re-production of archaeological findings/ handicrafts as
souvenirs
b.) common brochure / Internet platform / CD-Rom with historical
facts on different themes, periods and routes, including
presentation of heritage sites and events;
c.) publication of relevant information on medieval sites and events
in existing journals and Internet sites
