Background of Accommodation Work in Kentucky 1990 – Kentucky Educational Reform Performance-based testing led to a more rigorous model and a small number of proficient students Concern for special education students led to a comprehensive package of accommodations

7 CT EAG Findings Kentucky chose to study the effect of read aloud accommodation on test scores for SWD in grade 4. The study findings showed increased test scores for SWD more than for SWOD. The difference in score gain, due to the read aloud accommodation between the two groups, was significant.

9 Implications for Kentucky Suggestions for Future Studies
Build in provisions for on-site monitoring of the assessment process to gain an understanding of how accommodations are administered at the individual student level. Expand the student read aloud accommodation testing to students at middle school and high school levels to measure age affect. Conduct future studies in a different time of the school year, probably in the fall.

10 Implications for Kentucky Uses of the Study
Supports United States Department of Education requirements. Supports Kentucky’s application for Race to the Top and State Fiscal Stabilization Funds Phase 2.

11 Kentucky Implications Future Action
Kentucky will conduct a thorough review of accommodations for the upcoming state test. Expectations exist that accommodations in Kentucky will be changed from the existing model.
