3. HSE Activities HOT TOPICS Fatigue and Work
Fatigue is the feeling of being tired. It is different from feeling sleepy or drowsy. Fatigue can include reduced or no energy, physical or mental exhaustion and/or lack of motivation.
Factors may include: Psychological (stress, anxiety), Physical (health related) or Physiological (inadequate rest or sleep, excessive exercise).
What can we do:
Eat and sleep well, drink water.
Reduce your hours of work, where possible
Have healthy down-times between shifts, especially when traveling to site or long distances
Speak to your Group Leader about stresses impacting your work
Try to avoid the mid-afternoon drop in energy by eating protein/carbs at lunch time, go for a walk at lunch time, drinking water encourages you to go for a walk
Listen to the radio either via a phone, the internet or a simple radio (make sure it is not going to disturb others)
