3. The Mgeni catchment has been delineated into thirteen water management units (WMUs). Your community is in Inanda WMU which is influenced by all the upstream WMUs. Please also note that the weather station used for your community is some distance from the community thus what they experience may not be exactly what historical is.

5. Mgeni catchment
The land use of the catchment varies. In the upper areas of the catchment where the rainfall is generally higher, plantation forestry is a dominant land use. In the middle reaches of the catchment there are significant areas of sugarcane plantations and urban areas, while the lower reaches of the catchment have substantial urban areas associated with the port city of Durban. The Mgeni catchment also contains four large reservoirs, viz. Midmar, Albert Falls, Nagle and Inanda Dam.

6. These decreases in flow are due to the impacts of (more so) commercial forestry and sugarcane
