Recap: What is natural capital?
3
Renewable Natural Capital
What does this term mean? Can you come up with an example of this, and explain why you think it is natural capital? “Resources that are self-produced, self-maintained and self-regulated, using solar energy or photosynthesis, eg living species and ecosystems”.
4
Trees: Goods and Services?
DEFINE: Goods and Services, then give some examples of each…
5
Replenishable Capital
“Non-living, but dependent on the solar engine for renewal”. Groundwater What is it? What factors might affect the amount / location of groundwater? Why is it not ‘self-regulating’ like renewable capital?
6
Non-renewable Capital
Why are these non-renewable? Only renewable on a geological timescale. This capital is FINITE as its use is far greater than its slow regeneration process. Any use can be considered a depletion of the total capital inventory. Identify your own example of non-renewable natural capital, and explain why.
