2 Types of Relationships
Learning to get along with others begins at an early age. Most people learn to develop positive relationships at home with their parents and siblings. Later in life, relationships expand and we become more influenced by our peers, romantic partners, and coworkers. Learning about these different types of relationships can help you form more successful bonds with others.

3 Parents Infants form their first relationships with their parents.
Infants are totally dependent on their caregivers to survive Children needs love, support, and security to thrive In early adolescence, children begin to search for independence and rely on peers for some guidance. Responsibility shifts away from parent and is put on the teen

4 Siblings Young children build relationships with siblings at an early age. Often sibling rivalries begin young and continue throughout life Building positive relationships with siblings = building positive relationships with peers in the future Learning to handle jealously and competition with siblings help children to know how to handle difficult situations with friends

5 Peers Relationships with peers become very important during teen years
Not all peers will become your friends “You can’t choose your family” but you can choose your friends…CHOOSE WISELY! Positive friendships= support system to depend on Negative friendships= bad attitude and negative outlook on life

6 Romantic Relationships
Later teen years and adult years, romantic relationships become important Partners should encourage each other to develop to their full potential, share each others joys and sorrows, enjoy each others company, support one another Romantic relationships grow and change just as the couple grows and changes Ultimately, romantic relationships lead to marriage Marriage requires commitment and constant communication

7 Work Relationships People form less intimate relationships with their coworkers Often spend several hours a day with these people so it is important to find common ground and interests Positive relationships are ESSENTIAL for workplace success A good attitude goes a long way! Share responsibilities = share success

8 Benefits of Positive Relationships
Research shows that people with positive relationships… have few physical illnesses Better emotional well-being Less prone to diseases Live longer More financially stable

9 Networking Networking: forming an interconnected groups whose members work together to help one another Often requires you to go out of your comfort zone ESSENTIAL in adult life! “WHO you know will get you in the door, WHAT you know will keep you there!” “Never burn a bridge! You never know when you might have to walk over it again in the future.”

14 Types of friendships Acquaintance- someone you know, but who is not a close friend Good friend- someone whom you share common interests, talk often, have fun, and enjoy social activates together Best friend- someone whom you share your deepest thoughts and feelings and ask for advice. Often share a common background and lifestyle.
